Digital Footprint / Digital Citizenship
A digital footprint is the different servers, networks, or websites you visit. A digital footprint explains what things you belong to, things that are connected to your name, or different things you do on the internet. People can see what you like or have interests in with a digital footprint. Others can see what you have done, what sites you have been to, and things you have posted or shared. Anything that you do online adds to your digital footprint. Depending on the kind of exposure you would like on your digital footprint, you should see the privacy settings for the website you are on.
Digital citizenship means the way you act towards people online. If you are mean and bully people online, you are not being a good digital citizen. If you respect others opinions and are kind to other people online, you are being a good digital citizen. Your actions and activity on the website that you are on all reflect on your digital citizenship.
Some positive examples of digital citizenship include the following: respecting what others have to say, being kind; not saying hurtful things, if you disagree with something, understand both sides of the situation, and finally, be responsible with your actions. Be proud of being a good digital citizen.
Negative examples of digital citizenship include the following: bullying others, being unfriendly or harmful to others. Putting inappropriate things online, harassing or intentionally trying to hurt others, and saying mean things about others is not a good way to be a nice digital citizen.
Digital citizenship is related to social responsibility because how you act toward others and how you treat others are both ways of digital citizenship and social responsibility. You have to be respectful and responsible to be both a good digital citizen and a socially responsible person. If you are rude and mean to people, others will probably think that you are not a good digital citizen or a socially responsible person.
